Paperclip is a minimal, friends-only emoji presence app. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to protecting your personal information.
Information We Collect
Account Information
Apple ID identifier: a unique user ID provided by Apple when you sign in. Optionally your name/email if you choose to share them with Apple Sign In.
Display name: the name you choose to show your friends.
Username: your chosen handle (used for friend lookup and your public profile if enabled).
Emoji status: the single emoji you select to share your current vibe.
Device Information
Push notification token: used to deliver notifications when your friends update their emoji.
Device ID: used for app functionality and session management.
Friend Connections
Invite codes and friend relationships between accounts you've connected with.
Private friend overrides (nicknames, pinned emoji, per-friend notification preferences) — visible only to you.
Moderation Data
If you report or block another user, we store the report (reason, optional note, timestamp) and the block relationship. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours.
How We Use Your Information
To provide and operate the Paperclip app.
To deliver push notifications about your friends' emoji updates.
To enable friend connections via invite codes.
To enforce community safety and take action on reports.
How We Don't Use Your Information
No advertising. We do not show ads or share data with advertisers.
No tracking. We do not track you across other apps or websites.
No analytics SDKs. We do not collect behavioral analytics.
No selling. We do not sell your data to anyone, ever.
Sharing
Your emoji status is shared only with friends you've connected with. If you enable Public Profile in Settings, your current emoji and display name are accessible at a public URL (getpaperclipped.com/api/profile/<username>). You can turn this off any time.
Local Network Discovery
Paperclip uses Multipeer Connectivity over your local network for optional nearby friend pairing (sharing invite codes between devices on the same Wi-Fi). This is opt-in via the OS permission prompt and works only between devices on the same local network. No data leaves your network.
Data Retention
Account data persists as long as your account is active.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account (no support contact required).
Upon account deletion, all your data — profile, emoji history, friend connections, push tokens, reports you've filed — is permanently removed immediately.
Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, and delete your personal data. You can also withdraw consent for notifications at any time from Settings → Notifications.
Children's Privacy
Paperclip is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
